Power Balance

Since most settings can't really match the city/country/planet/universe/multiverse-shattering might jumpers usually acquire pretty quickly, what powersets/level of power do you usually dial down to?

Edit: As an example, take the Harry Potter jump.

I will never reduce the power of my jumper for the sake of balance.

It is much funnier to dial everything else up XD.

It really depends some jumps it’s fun to stay at their power level, some it’s fun to be op and some it’s fun to sandbag so everyone thinks you’re weak then go all out and watch their faces.

Have the 'real' jumper outside the multiverse to chill, have an 'avatar' take the role of the central character (stats pared down). If that one fails then chain be over

Unless I take a Drawback that requires it, I don't, plain and simple. I tend to be a short term destabilizing force, long term Emperor.

Usually a single 'tier' above the average of the setting.

So he's not completely helpless against anyone but isn't too much of an outlier.

Jumper may hold back if I enjoy a setting and want to see plot events occur with Jumper there. Worm for example was entirely derailed at the soonest opportunity, while Wandering Inn is more behind the scenes stuff while playing at being the crazy benefactor (the irony is not lost on me).

Jumper almost always leaves worlds in a better state than he left though, part of my Chain rules. More fun with restrictions leaning toward benevolence, the saying of hammers and nails abides.

Usually I cripple my Atziluth with All Fiction. I erase its ability to spread outwards to turn myself from Hadou God (god who controls multiverse) to Gudou God (walking universe). But no more limits.

I see my jumper as a twisted actor of sorts. They dial down to around the level of the protag or something else almost all the time and play a vaguely defined role despite the benefits to the locals that hard derailing would do.

Depends on the setting. Like most settings where there isn’t anything too bad for me to go all ONE PUUUUUUUUUNCH!!! But in others like say Warhammer, Type Moon, Dresden Files,BtVS, Stargate, basically any series where they are a lot of evil, baddies, or just plain awful people running around that it’s time just time to go Exodia OBLITERATE! on them, and pick up the pieces afterwords.

I think it's more fun to be in setting so my Jumper usually turns off everything except for convenience perks or unless there's a theme or goal they need to accomplish. The most fun tricks are found when you're the underdog after all. That said, I have moments called shounen jump endings where for a single attack the Jumper unleashes absolutely everything for a single goal or enemy. Like, music plays in the background and maybe illusionary credits roll down for all the people that participated. Basically, falling into a jump and saying "Well I guess I win" does not make for an entertained Benefactor.

my two jumpers have an agreement to limit their power levels and not attack each other later in their chain.

For what it's worth, my Jumper sees his journey as a quest for Enlightenment. He leaves all of his worldly possessions and human connections behind, to go on a journey with neither destination nor beginning, over the course of which he has come upon a world-view epiphany. Now he spends time as a humble teacher. While I've got power to throw around, I tend to teach the protagonists to stand up for themselves, rather then do the fighting for them.

He has an enemy in another jumper, who is a gangster transhumanist anti-establishment sort, who is basically the worst sort of robber-baron. The first time we met, we were… civil. We've become less so.

This is a kind of self-defeating mindset. If you don't want to be too powerful for a setting, don't get that powerful. Nobody is forcing you to become omnipotent. If you do get that powerful, what is the sense of holding back?

A problem, or maybe a feature, of Jumpchain is exactly the issue of power. Having power may be fun for some time, but it serves as a poor end goal. Say I go to all the Fate/Legends series of jumps, where you can become a literal embodiment of evil, impose death on undying beings, kill gods, and automatically collect the treasures of humanity, before going to My Hero Academia. If I want to experience, have fun, and overall learn from my time there, using overwhelming power is detrimental to almost any goal I might have.

Of course, this statement is made through the lens I view jumpchain; for you, your preferences are almost certainly differing.

Look, if you do go to the Fate/Legends setting (something I've never understood the appeal of, admittedly) and decide to turn yourself into a killing machine who can attack enemies on a conceptual level that most settings haven't got any sort of an answer for, then that's who you are now.

Either be more creative with the obstacles you face (read some silver age superman comics for reference of how to write a character with nothing even approaching a hard limit), or set yourself goals that your skillset doesn't have answers for. Try doing something other then fighting. Hell, if that doesn't appeal to you, take the Three Star Gauntlet and combine it with my Hero Academy! But if your problem is you're too powerful to have fun, then the only sensible answer is don't get that powerful.

Oh, and if you can do the Harry Potter jump without thinking you're (generous estimate) in your forties and competing academically with a bunch of eleven year olds, then the misbalanced power thing is the least of your worries.
